The Rappahannock Choral Society, Inc., (RCS) is an audition-only, 30-voice regional chorus whose mission is to provide quality, enjoyable musical entertainment and education through concerts and selected singing opportunities. Our name reflects the membership which comes from Spotsylvania, Stafford, Orange, Culpeper, Caroline, Louisa, and King George Counties as well as the City of Fredericksburg.
Membership by audition-only ensures the excellence of the singers, helps maintain the balance of the group, enables us to perform the level of music you will hear at concerts and maintains the quality of sound produced by the ensemble. Our Musical Director/Conductor, Bob Burnett and our Accompanist, Marilla Haas, both have exceptional training and experience in their fields. A number of non-singers serve our organization as members of the Board of Directors, Advisory Board, the RCS Support Team and on committees.
The RCS, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with the permission to solicit funds within the Commonwealth. We are in partnership with Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation, a Partner in Education with the Spotsylvania County Schools, and a Partner in Community Service with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office. We offer an annual Anne E. Parker $1000 scholarship to a Spotsylvania County High School graduating senior who is continuing their musical education.
The RCS performs two signature concerts each year: our two Christmas Concerts in December and our two Spring Concerts in the late spring on Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. The RCS was the featured choral ensemble for two years at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies at the National Harbor where we performed to crowds of over 12,000 fans! The RCS was recognized by the Virginia House of Delegates for its exemplary leadership as the premier community choral organization in Spotsylvania Country and the Rappahannock Region. We have been awarded two Project Grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
