WANT TO SING WITH US?
Membership in the Rappahannock Choral Society is by audition. The RCS endeavors to maintain a blend of voices and a balance between voice sections. The auditions enable us to do this. The audition is not difficult and it helps us to determine voice range, voice quality and music reading ability. Don’t worry–if you have done any serious choral singing or have played an instrument, you will have no problem demonstrating you music reading ability.
Auditions will take place prior to the first rehearsal each spring and fall. Please see the information about the audition to get started.
WHAT DOES THE AUDITION ENTAIL?
We do not expect you to sing music that you have not seen before.
In order to audition, you will need to contact the conductor at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-412-6152 to provide your contact information and set up an appointment time. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 716, Locust Grove, VA 22508.
For the audition:
- You may either bring music to sing a song that you feel best demonstrates your voice. (It can be as simple as a folk song or as difficult as an aria.) OR, we can supply a simple song for you to learn and perform.
- We will also supply a simple four part well-known song for you to learn and perform your voice part as part of a quartet. We can assist you in this.
As with our concert music, you are welcome to get any assistance to learn the music.
We average about 70 members of all ages and from all walks of life. Membership dues are $35 per person ($65 couple) per concert season. Concert seasons run from mid-September through mid-December and from mid-January through mid-May.
Dues cover the use of a binder with the concert music, and a copy of the CD from the concert. Student dues are refunded at the end of each season once the student has demonstrated attendance responsibility. We have never refused membership to a qualified singer due to finances. All music is the property of the RCS and must be returned after the concerts.
We do not require you to purchase any special wardrobe. Standard formal concert dress is ladies – black to the floor-skirt or slacks, arms covered over the elbows; men – black suit, white shirt (we supply bow ties).
